Sturgeon Spearing with
Discover Wisconsin

 

Lake Winnebago is one of the only places in the world for fishing enthusiasts to partake in the hunt for the prehistoric sturgeon.

Every winter, sturgeon spearing season runs for up to 16 days on the lake system - and thousands of people drive their shacks onto the ice and carve out holes to test their luck.

We spent the day with Discover Wisconsin and 20 veterans for the 2022 Veteran Sturgeon Spearing Retreat.
